I'm Zela Feraco, PhD. Witch, scientist, strategist, psychic, and the woman behind Nightshade Sanctum.

My work moves between the laboratory and the altar, between what can be proven and what can only be felt. I bring both, fully, so nothing has to get left behind to work with me.

If you’re building a soul-led business, tending your body as sacred ground, or simply ready to come home to your own power, I’d love to be part of that journey.

A little about me...

I’ve never been particularly interested in choosing between the rational and the mystical. Both live in me at once, and always have.

I spent more than a decade in science, eventually earning a PhD in Medical Microbiology through the University of Cape Town and EPFL in Switzerland, where my research investigated the evolutionary mechanisms that allow bacteria to adapt, persist, and develop resistance to antibiotics. I worked with tuberculosis in high-containment laboratories, led an international research collaboration, published in the peer-reviewed journal eLife, received the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship, and was selected to attend the Interdisciplinary Nobel Laureates Meeting.

Later, I moved into commercial strategy with PwC Switzerland, working across rare disease, access to life-saving medications, neuroscience, and drug development, learning an entirely different way of looking at difficult problems: how to find the thing underneath the thing, how to make decisions when the information is incomplete, and how to turn complexity into something you can actually move with.

The older thread running through my life stayed with me through all of it. I was a witch long before I was willing to put the word on a website.

My earliest magical inheritance came through my grandmother and an English lineage of wortcunning: plants gathered and grown for their uses, remedies made by hand, water found by dowsing, weather watched and understood, animals listened to, and the natural world treated as something alive enough to be in relationship with.

What began there became a lifetime of study and practice.

I am a classically trained psychic-medium and professional tarot reader, a practising witch and spellworker, and the founder of Nightshade Sanctum Mystery School. My work has expanded through years of study and practice in astrology, charm casting, spirit work, energy alchemy and the Akashic Records, including Verdant Starweaves, the frequency-healing modality I channel and teach.

Today I work with people across the world through commissioned spellwork, tarot and divination, spiritual counsel, mystery-school training, and Obsidian Throne, a six-month private mentorship container for spiritual business owners ready to move past a plateau.

These look like different kinds of work. To me, they share the same root.

A tarot reading is really about what will happen next, but underneath that, it’s about the pattern you keep repeating. A spell is really about the outcome you asked for, but underneath that, it’s about what needed to shift in you before that outcome could land. A crossroads asks for more than an inspirational sentence and a trust fall into the universe. And a business problem is very often something other than the problem its owner thinks she has.

I’m drawn to what’s growing beneath the surface: the pattern underneath the pattern, the place where something became stuck, the power that has been surrendered, the decision that keeps being deferred, the desire underneath the socially acceptable desire, and what needs to change in the material, psychological, strategic, or magical world for movement to become possible.

That is where I work.

Sometimes that means laying out the cards and telling you exactly what I see. Sometimes it means building a spell around an outcome and working it at my altar on your behalf. Sometimes it means sitting across from you at a genuine crossroads in your life and helping you separate fear from intuition, fantasy from possibility, and what other people expect from what you actually want. And sometimes it means months of private work together, pulling apart the shape of a life, business, or identity that no longer fits, and growing something more powerful in its place.

The method changes, though the depth never does.

I also know the difference between holding space and simply sounding good while somebody is hurting.

Before my scientific career began, I spent four years working alongside a court-appointed psychological expert in South Africa. I supervised court-ordered contact between parents and children in cases involving psychiatric illness, substance abuse, criminal allegations, and complex family conflict, with responsibility for the child’s safety, and wrote reports that informed expert recommendations to the courts.

That work taught me something I have carried into everything since: what people actually need, when their lives are complicated, is someone who can remain present inside that complexity rather than flinch from it.

I hold one boundary clearly: this is spiritual work, and it sits outside the scope of therapy. But when someone brings me grief, upheaval, relationship rupture, spiritual crisis, a decision they can’t see their way through, or a life that’s stopped making sense, this is familiar ground. I know how to sit in the room when the answer isn’t easy.

And yes, I still care whether things actually work. Perhaps that’s the scientist in me.

I believe in mystery that can hold up to scrutiny. I believe intuition becomes more useful when it can withstand discernment. I believe spiritual practice should change the way you inhabit your actual life. I believe a beautiful ritual can be sacred and still have an objective. And I believe spirituality should sharpen your intelligence rather than dull it.

My scientific training taught me how to question my assumptions, follow evidence, recognise patterns, and stay curious even when the answer in front of me wasn’t the one I wanted.

My magical training taught me that plenty of what’s real sits beyond anything we currently know how to measure.

Both live in me, and I need them together.

That’s probably why the people who find their way to me are so often people who need both, too.

They are intelligent, complicated people standing at thresholds. Founders and creatives. Witches and mystics. People rebuilding after endings. People who know something needs to change but can’t yet see its shape. People who want spiritual work that keeps their discernment intact, and practical thinking that leaves room for the sacred.

Your intelligence stays intact when you enter the mystery here, and the mystical in you stays intact when you take your life seriously.

If you’re here because something needs to move, there are several ways we can work together.

Crossroads Counsel is for the moment when you need another mind, another set of eyes, and a deeply intuitive perspective on something you are actually living through.

Tarot & Divination is for clarity, pattern recognition, questions, decisions, and the things you can’t quite see from inside your own life.

Commissioned Spellwork is for the things you want worked magically: love, prosperity, visibility, protection, justice, sovereignty, road opening, release, and the particular workings that require more than a generic ritual downloaded from the internet.

Obsidian Throne is my deepest private container: six months of bi-weekly calls, ongoing Voxer support, monthly bespoke spellwork cast specifically for what’s moving in your business, and a quarterly audit of what’s actually working and what isn’t, for the spiritual business owner ready to stop plateauing and build something that holds.

Whatever doorway brings you here, you are getting the same person on the other side of it.

The scientist who wants to understand the mechanism. The strategist who wants to know what will actually move the needle. The psychic who listens for what’s left unsaid. The witch who knows that sometimes the answer belongs at the altar. And the human being who understands that some seasons of a life ask for more than a five-step framework can hold.

If you have found yourself here at a threshold, come and show me what you’re standing in front of.

We can begin there.
